New Film: Jack Rio

I had been holding off on posting about this until more information came out. As you can see there's a poster for the film, as well as a release date which is currently set for June 13th, but is always subject to change.

Here is a short plot summary from IMDB:
Tommy Jamison is a very famous actor, the star of the mega-hit show "The Incredible Jack Rio", a film noir soap opera. However, after 4 years of playing 'Jack', he is almost never called by his real name anymore, and he is sick of it. The fans, the loss of identity, the pressure to be 'Jack', it's become too much for him. Tommy wants off the show that has made him famous. When a string of murders coincide with his scheduled appearances in public, the question is raised "Does Tommy have an obsessed stalker, killing in honor of Tommy?" Perhaps. Perhaps something far worse is at work. "Jack Rio" will thrill you.

All I can tell you that Jelynn plays Kelly Morgan and will be sharing the screen with two of my favorite actors, Brian Krause and Jonathan LaPaglia.

I hope to have more information to share soon. Check out the IMDB page for some screens from the film. You can also watch the trailer below:

Grizzly Park DVD Review

When I found out Jelynn was shooting a horror movie featuring a killer grizzly bear, all I could think was, at least its not zombies. I'm not really a big fan of horror movies, mostly because I can't sleep the night after.

With that said, I was greatly looking forward to this movie after watching some of the previews on Youtube. I watched the movie tonight with some friends (which makes the experience that much better if you can) and I quite enjoyed it.

I've written a short review of the DVD package offered by Allumination FilmWorks.

The Movie
Like I said before, I'm not much of a horror fan, so I didn't know what to expect from this movie. I was pleasantly surprised that there are some interesting characters and interactions, as well as some interesting plot lines. Jelynn's character, Kiki, turned out to be a pretty bad girl, considering what she did to end up in the rehabilitation program. Then there was the "waterfall scene" which seems to be common in horror films, in one form or another. But the reason for this one, well, it was at least inventive and believable, and had us laughing. Overall, i wasn't surprised by what happened to some of the characters, after all, horror fans have certain expectations of suspense and gore. By the end of it, I really lost track of time and got sucked in by the movie. I'm glad Jelynn was in this film because otherwise I probably wouldn't have seen it. Its not really like other horror movies I have scene, but I'd recommend this to any of Jelynn's fans or fans of horror movies.

The DVD
The DVD I watched appeared to be a widescreen version of the film, which was nice. The film looked great on my laptop and my regular TV. The DVD comes with some behind the scenes interviews and footage, trailers, spanish subtitles, as well as audio commentary. I haven't had a chance to listen to all the audio commentary, but I did go back and watch a few scenes. I enjoy hearing the decision process and getting some clarity on issues directly from the film-makers. The behind the scenes interviews, like the one I took a picture of, are also very interesting. I recognized some of the footage from what was put on YouTube. Some of it is quite good, like a scene showing how they used a stand-in for the grizzly bear for one of the scenes. Overall, I wish there were more special features, but thats the sort of stuff most people watch once and then never again. It's not as important to me as a quality movie, which I believe Grizzly Park to be.

Packaging
The packaging of the DVD is pretty standard. The DVD itself is held tightly with little chance of coming loose and being scratched. Thats sometimes a problem with DVDs I have ordered off the internet in the past. The Allumination FilmWorks page says that a Holographic Foil O-Card Packaging is available, which sounds interesting, but was not the version I have.

Final Word
Overall, I enjoyed this film and DVD. Like I said before, if you're a horror fan or just here as a fan of Jelynn's, I'd recommend picking this up. Considering the price is no different than any other movie on DVD and the fact that most people won't have a chance to see this in theaters, why not?

Again, here is a list of some popular online retailers where you can get Grizzly Park on DVD, available to ship on May 27th, 2008.
